Ian Fong

After spending six years opening restaurants, I started two innovative companies- a reinvention of the Hong Kong tailor and a company that makes viral stone keyboards. Now I want to join your team.

MAKER AND ENTREPRENEUR

About me

After graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, I embarked on a crazy career journey. I spent 6 years in the FnB industry, helping restauranteurs open multiple cafes. Having cut my entrepreneurial teeth, I started my first business CUFFS, a custom clothing store that reinvented the traditional Hong Kong tailor. Then I embarked on my second venture- designing and making stone keyboards under the brand Brazen Studio.

Why you want me on your team

Having been an entrepreneur, I KNOW how to help you.

I will grow your revenue

I've proven that I can identify business opportunities and monetize them. I have a great eye for design and I can create cool stuff that garners global attention.

I will tell your story

Having a good STORY is paramount. You need a clear narrative that inspires your customers, investors and team. I will help you tell your story with my clarity of thought and skills in writing, photography and videography.

I can get shi*t done

Give me an objective and I will come to you with solutions, not problems. I will independantly DRIVE a project, overcome obstacles and execute. I'm scrappy, resourceful and have a knack for getting great results on a small budget.

O1

Brazen Studio

While preparing to open a pizza shop (that's a story for another day), I created a prototype mechanical keyboard made from engineered stone. I posted it on Reddit and keyboard enthusiasts told me to shut up and take their money. So I did. I started Brazen Studio and expanded our product range to desk accessories, coffee gear and lighting. Our designs have been recognized on Yanko Design, Design Milk, Gizmodo and others.

O2

Cuffs Custom Clothing

Driven by my frustration with finding stylish shirts that fit, I created Cuffs, a reinvention of the traditional Hong Kong tailor shop. Featuring a cool brand identity, step-by-step Shirt/Suit Bar and an inhouse designer, we were the "iPhone of Tailors". With retail shops in Causeway Bay and Central, we served thousands of loyal customers and garnered international recognition, including as finalists in the WGSN Futures Awards.

O3

Food & Beverage

I spent 6 years with San Francisco Coffee, a regional cafe chain and Epoch, a coffee and pastry shop operator. I worked closely with the founders to build their businesses, from training staff to product development and shop construction. This was also the start of my journey as an ardent foodie.

My Passions

  • I love cooking and hosting dinner parties on my roof terrace (with the occassional private kitchen gig)

  • Neapolitan pizza is one of my specialities- I've even taught Italians how to make pizza!

  • I'm a big coffee nerd- I have a ridiculous espresso set up at home and I roast my own coffee beans

  • While I had to learn how to use a camera for work, I also have a passion for photography, film making and telling stories

  • I've practiced Muay Thai for over a decade and in my younger days even had a few amateur fights
